NURSING SERVICES

Our nursing staff are comprised of 1 full time Registered Nurse and 1Part time Endorsed Enrolled Nurses (3 / 4 day’s week). We have two Nurses rostered on most days. They can assist with Care Plans, health assessments, diabetic reviews, asthma care plans & recalls.

SPECIALIST SERVICES

Mackay has a broad selection of private specialists and a full range of specialist services are provided by Mater Misericordia and Mackay Base Hospitals

DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

Sullivan & Nicolaides Pathology  & QML Pathology are all located in Mackay city centre, a 5 minute drive from surgery.

Qld XRay & Mackay Radiology are a 10 minute drive from the surgery.

OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES

Occupational Health represents a significant proportion of our patient services with between 60 – 90 pre-employment medicals and fitness for work assessments conducted each week, largely for the mining industry. We also complete a large number of Functional Capacity Evaluations as part of our Occ Health Services.

Our surgery is very well setup to perform medical assessments, with the dedicated services of an Occ Health Technician as well as a Sound Reduction Audiometry Booth and a drug and alcohol testing room. We have a separate area from the General Practice where all testing is completed. It contains equipment such has weights & steps for Queens College and Chester step tests.

Our Occ Health Technician is trained to perform: spirometry, audiogram, drug and alcohol testing and other general screening components of medicals.

Our doctors also provide more general medical services such as Skin Checks & perform minor procedures & excisions. We are equipped with a Venous Doppler and INR.

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

Harbour Road Medical is very much a family practice, with facilities set aside for our Occupational Health Services. We have a wide range of patients; young and old and everyone in between. There is a fairly even mixture of families, elderly and working age. With the mining industry being one of the largest local employers we have adapted our services to meet their Occupation Health needs as well as the health needs of their families.

BILLING ARRANGEMENTS

We are a mixed billing, NOT a bulk billing clinic. Our Standard consult fee is $85. As a general rule Pensioners, HCC Holders and children <16 yrs of age are Bulk Billed. We generally leave the billing for our patients to the Dr’s discretion.

Dr’s remuneration for completing Pre-employment medicals ranges from $55 - $98.

PATIENT FLOWS

Appointments are normally at 10 minute intervals, but can be changed to 15 min if preferred.

Our doctors can see 6 Patients per hour or 40 patients per day (including Occ Health Medicals).

TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES

Mackay is a town of approximately 85,000 people, situated 335 kilometres North of Rockhampton and 972 km North of Brisbane, on the North Queensland coast. It is known as the Sugar capital of Australia and also the gateway to the Bowen Basin, the largest coal mining reserves in Australia.

 

Mackay lies at the heart of the Whitsunday coastline with numerous sandy beaches in close proximity to town.  Mountain ranges offer an exciting contrast, boasting spectacular views of the surrounding area.  The Whitsunday Islands are further North but easily accessible for leisure and recreation. 

The city has 11 primary schools and 4 high schools, many of them being private schools with excellent academic records.

Caneland Central, the major shopping centre in Mackay boasts 230 specialty stores together with Myer, Target, Big W, Woolworths, Coles, JB Hi Fi, and Best and Less. 

Mackay airport offers 12 daily return flights to Brisbane, 1-2 to Townsville, 1 to Sydney and 1 to Melbourne.

Mackay has a wonderful lifestyle and is a great place to raise a family with a great choice of Private and Public

Schools.

Mackay is a 90 minute flight to Brisbane. 90 minute drive to the beautiful Whitsundays with heaps of pristine beaches and islands to explore, also close to several national parks with hiking and fishing literally on your back porch. Full complement of sporting clubs, gyms and of course challenging golf courses.

SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT

We are seeking an experienced VR GP with a genuine desire to be a part of a team who is as patient focused as we are.

Occupational Health experience / interest in learning would be beneficial.

We would be happy to assist a doctor interested in Occ Health to get up to speed with some inhouse training.

CIRCUMSTANCES

We are a growing practice, one of our long term full time GP’s has recently accepted a new role and our current GP’s cannot take on any new patients.

CONTRACT TERMS

Prefer full time: Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm.

No on call, after hours, or nursing home visits. No teaching responsibilities.

A competitive percentage rate is offered dependant on skills and experience.

Harbour Road Medical needs an enthusiastic VR GP to help serve our community whilst giving the opportunity to enhance
