ASCOT FAMILY PRACTICE
Ascot Family Practice are seeking a permanent part-time General Practitioner to work 2.5 days per week and taking over an existing patient base for a doctor who is going on maternity leave in July 2019. This position is permanent. Having been in continuous operation for over 50 years Ascot Family Practice is a well established medical practice providing health care services to the local community in the Ascot, Hamilton, Clayfield and Hendra areas.

SURGERY OVERVIEW
Ascot Family Practice is the longest established medical practice in the Ascot area, having been in continuous operation for over 63 years. Today we offer a wide range of modern medical services, and consistently strive to deliver high-quality community-based healthcare. With our 4 female GPs we have developed a reputation for our high quality of care in Womens Health and Paediatrics.
Our practice is nestled in the cosy village of Ascot on the North East side of the Brisbane CBD and within a short stroll to the Brisbane River and Eagle Farm Racecourse. Conveniently positioned in the leafy main shopping precinct of Ascot we are within easy access to a range of allied health, pharmacy and diagnostic services. As we are outgrowing our current premises we hope to be relocating the practice to a larger premises nearby within the next 12 months.
We are a training practice with some of our doctors involved in the training of registrars from the University of Queensland and the College of General Practitioners.

The practice is a privately owned family business.
OUR DOCTORS
We have five General Practitioners at the practice for a Full Time Equivalent of approximately 3 doctors. They share a broad mix of skills and clinical interests including: Womens Health, Chronic Disease Management, Preventative Healthcare, Paediatrics, Mental Health, Chronic Disease, Mens Health, Indigenous Health and Orthopaedics.
MEDICARE STATUS
Ascot is an RA1 location and is NOT a DWS.
SURGERY LAYOUT
Ascot Family Practice has 5 consulting rooms, a two bed treatment room and a separate audio (FIX TYPO – AUDIO NOT AUDION) room booth. Our consulting rooms have natural light and windows. Onsite parking is available for patients. Staff park in nearby streets which is not metered and very close to the practice (within a small suburban block). The practice has a kitchenette and ducted air conditioning.
SURGERY ROUTINE
Our surgery hours are Monday to Friday: 7.30am to 6.00pm, Saturdays: 8am to 12 noon.
We have 3 doctors working each week day and four of our doctors share a rotational roster for Saturdays.
Our normal appointment schedule is in 15 minute timeslots and we prioritise same day appointments for children to ensure timely care. Many patients book on line appointments with Hot Doc app. Appointments are also available on the day.
TREATMENT ROOM
We have a two bed treatment room in the practice, one of which is adjustable. We have a standard treatment room setup which includes the following equipment: Hyfecator, Plaster saw, ECG, Audiometer, Steriliser, Ear syringe, Iron infusions.
Pre-employment medicals are also conducted on site using equipment such as: weights, dynamometer, urine drug tests, breathalyser, audiometer, colour blindness test.
ADMIN SETUP
We have two mature receptionists, each of whom have in excess of 10 years experience in general practice. One of our reception staff undertakes the role of Office Manager in the occasional absence of the Practice Manager.
Our surgery is fully Accredited with AGPAL until July 2020. We are a fully computerised, paperless practice using Best Practice for both clinical and billing functions. All paper records scanned into patient’s medical records when not received via medical-objects



NURSING SERVICES
Nursing support is provided Monday to Friday by one RN and one EN. Both nurses are capable of performing Care Plan and Health Assessment preparation on behalf of the doctors, and provide clinical support for pre-employment medicals
ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES
Ascot Family Practice hosts a Dietician – 2.5 days per week and Podiatrist 0.5 days per week.
Being centrally located near Brisbane CBD there is a large selection of allied health services within easy access of the surgery.
SPECIALIST SERVICES
There are two major hospitals (Royal Brisbane Hospital and St Andrews Hospital) within 10 Minutes of our surgery and a full range of specialist services available.
DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
There is a range of diagnostic imaging and radiology services within easy access of the practice:

QML pathology 100 metres on the same side of the road

OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES
In addition to our normal general practice services Ascot Family Practice provide the following: Accidents & Emergencies, Contraceptive insertion & removal, Ante-natal shared care, skin cancer screening and minor procedures, Excisions, ECG, Iron infusions and Pre-employment medicals.
PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS
Ascot is generally a higher socio-economic area with a significant proportion of well-educated professionals and many young families who are all privately billed. We also have a significant number of pensioners and health care card holders who are bulk-billed .
BILLING ARRANGEMENTS
Ascot Family Practice is a mixed billing facility. We bulk bill Health Care Card holders, Children Under 16 years, Health assessments and Care Plans. Our Standard consultation fees is $80 (Discounts are available at $65) and Long Consults are $135 (Discount $120).
PATIENT DEMAND
Our patient demand is robust with an average of 150 new patients per month over the last twelve months. During this period we have also averaged 50 pre-employment medicals per month, the work being shared between 4 doctors based on accuracy and satisfactory completion of paperwork.
With an average appointment time of 15 minutes per patient our doctors will generally see 4 patients per hour.
TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES
Ascot is a well established suburb in the City of Brisbane, Queensland, characterised by large Queenslander homes. Ascot is located approximately 7 kilometres (4 mi) north-east of Brisbane's Central Business District. Ascot is perhaps locally best known for its beautiful old homes, the picturesque poinciana tree lined shopping area of Racecourse Road, and for the Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses popular for racing carnivals. Over a third of the suburb is taken up by Doomben and its related outer buildings, Eagle Farm and Doomben racecourses.
Ascot is generally an affluent area – many new apartment buildings being developed and built over last few years.
TOURIST INFORMATION
Ascot is famous in the horse racing industry for its Doomben racecourse, the location of many high profile group races throughout the National horse racing calender.
SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT
We are seeking an Vocationally registered, FRACGP.
CIRCUMSTANCES
This is a maternity leave position commencing 1 July 2019. Our current doctor has advised she will not be returning to work on a full-time basis but part-time, possibly 3-4 months after birth of her second child . As a result we will have an on-going need for a part-time doctor after her return.
An incoming doctor would inherit a patient base with a significant emphasis on women’s health and paediatrics. Our doctor has also been in demand for iron influsions, pre employment medicals and contraceptive implants.
CONTRACT TERMS
We would be seeking a doctor who is able to work a spread of hours between 8am and 6pm two and a half (2.5) days a week. There would also be rotational weekend roster shared between 4 doctors, requiring one Saturday per month. We are happy to negotiate a competitive rate of pay.
LOCUM TERMS
A long term locum position would be considered (from July to Oct) with the option to continue thereafter.
