NURSING SERVICES

We have both EN and RN’s working at our practice and a minimum of three on duty during the week. They perform many services for our very busy GP’s to save the GP’s valuable time.  We have also have dedicated GP Management Plan Nurses who provide the testing and paperwork for the GP’s to continue the Chronic Disease Management of our patients. We also have a Mental Health Nurse who works 2 days a week.

ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES

Directly behind our practice is the Rural Health Hub where many allied health services visit.

SPECIALIST SERVICES

The Ayr District Hospital is across the road from our practice. Many specialists visit the nearby Ayr Hospital on a regular basis that our patients can be referred to, but our practice currently has a Private Surgeon who visits once a month.

DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

Our building contains both QML pathology services and Ayr Diagnostic Imaging, with both Xray and CT scan facilities.

OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES

Our Practice owners both have Diploma’s in Skin Cancer Surgery and many skin procedures are performed at Ayr Medical Group. One of our GP’s offers Cosmetic appointments.  All of our GP’s do skin procedures.  

Ayr Medical Group also has a contract with local Sugar Cane Millers to provide Occ Health services including treatment of workplace injuries such as lacerations and fractures and also a large number of pre-employment medicals.

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

We have a patient base of around 12000 patients. The demographics are of all backgrounds. We see newborns right through to clinics at the

Home for the Aged.

BILLING ARRANGEMENTS

Our practice bulk bills its regular patients, but at all times this is at the discretion of the GP. Some Private appointments are offered which at present are $70 for a standard consultation.

PATIENT FLOWS

We have huge patient demand on all GP’s, except for our Registrars who have a maximum no of patients they can see depending on their Levels. Our GP’s see 6 patients an hour. Our surgery is currently booked out 1 week in advance but patients are still carefully prioritised according to their needs.

TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES

Ayr is the largest of the communities situated in the Burdekin River Delta. It is a small, welcoming, rural community that is a great and safe place to live. It is located on the Bruce Highway approximately 90km (1 hour) South of Townsville, well known for its many attractions and within easy reach for a weekend visit. 

Ayr lies at the heart of the Great Barrier Reef. One hour’s drive to the South is the town of Bowen with its magnificent beaches. Another hour’s drive will bring you to Airlie Beach and the Whitsunday Islands. Ayr has a population of approximately 19,000 and is supported primarily by the sugar and vegetable growing, agriculture and grazing industries.

TOURIST INFORMATION

Ayr and the surrounding district has a host of interesting tourist attractions.

You can visit the Ayr Nature Display or Drive along the Burdekin Bridge that spans the Burdekin River between the towns of Ayr and Home Hill. It is one of the longest multi-span bridges in Australia and longer than Brisbane's Story Bridge or New South Wales's Hawkesbury River Railway Bridge. It is 46 metres shorter than Sydney's Harbour Bridge.  

The SS Yongola Ship Wreck is located 12 nautical miles offshore from Alva Beach (15 km from Ayr CBD) where tourists dive to observe the marine life that has taken up residence in this famous old wreck.

Fishing spots are everywhere in the Burdekin, including Alva Beach. Ayr is also a sporting Mecca – you name it, we play it.

SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT

We are looking for a generalist GP with a broad range of clinical skills.

CIRCUMSTANCES

In addition to growing patient demand we have recently lost two female doctors (temporarily) for family reasons and two of our IMGs have moved on after recently obtaining their general registration under our training program.

CONTRACT TERMS

A FRACGP qualified GP will be offered 65% of receipts. International Medical Graduates are also welcome to apply. Percentage offered to each full time GP will depending on AHPRA registration and any limitations that they may impose. On call is only once a week and rostered Saturday morning clinic and rostered weekend phone coverage.

LOCUM TERMS

Can supply 1BR apartment, furnished, very close to the practice.  We will also have transport available and offer return flights. A longer term locum at this time would be beneficial to the practice.
