SURGERY OVERVIEW

Corio Medical Clinic is part of Northern Bay Health, a network of three general practices and a diabetes clinic operating across the Northern suburbs of Geelong, Victoria. Corio Medical Centre is one of the largest medical centres in Geelong and has been operating in the area for over 30 years.

Our surgery has been well known, over many decades, for the reliable delivery of health outcomes to the community of Corio and surrounding suburbs. Our GP’s are very driven by the desire to make a difference to people’s health. Corio Medical Clinic are the doctors that care for the students at Geelong Grammar, one of the most prestigious private school in Australia.

We are a training practice and have been for 20 years. Our supervisors are dedicated to making sure we have the best training available for the next generation of GP’s. As part of this drive for clinical excellence, Assoc Prof Mark Kennedy conducts weekly CPD lectures at our clinic, in a room dedicated for this purpose.

We aim to provide the highest possible quality care to patients attending our clinics, by ensuring excellence in all aspects of our practice. We endeavour to provide patients with the best and most current treatments, methods, materials and equipment within our resource capabilities to ensure that the patients receive the high quality of service they have come to expect.We believe that the patient comes first and encourage our patients to take control of their health by including them in the decision-making process.

Our clinic is accessible by public transport and is 1km from a main shopping centre.

 

NORTHERN BAY HEALTH

Northern Bay Health currently operates in three locations: our main centre, Corio Medical Clinic, is located at 1 Bacchus Marsh Road in Corio. We have two smaller branch clinics, Plantation Medical Clinic, in Corio, and Bell Post Medical Centre, in Norlane. We also have a Diabetes Clinic, located next to Corio Medical Clinic, along with two pathology centres and a pharmacy.

With a team including 20 general practitioners, seven practice nurses, thirteen office staff, and various allied health professionals, we are one of the largest health care providers in Geelong. The General Practitioners who work at our clinics are highly skilled and cover a broad spectrum of special interests that includes women’s health, sexual health, chronic disease management, palliative care, shared antenatal care, adolescent health and paediatrics. We offer a range of allied health services, including physiotherapy, podiatry, and nutritional advice.

 

SURGERY OWNERSHIP

Northern Bay Health and Corio Medical Clinic is owned by a board of three GP directors, all of whom are actively working in our clinics. Asoc Prof Kennedy is the Founder and Chair Man of CMC.

 

OUR DOCTORS

Corio Medical Clinic has 20 General Practitioners on staff. Our practice principal, Assoc Prof Kennedy graduated from Monash University in 1984. He has completed Post Grad studies in Family Medicine, Sports Medicine, Complementary Medicine and Management. Mark has considerable experience and expertise with Diabetes and is often asked to speak at international and national conference’s, on Diabetes and Chronic Illness.

Mark is still very passionate about teaching the next generation of GP’s and making a difference to patient’s health outcomes. Mark’s example inspires all of our GP’s to provide a high standard of care and health outcomes to our patients and the greater community of Geelong.

 

SURGERY LAYOUT

Our clinic is a modern building with 16 Doctor’s rooms, a 5 bed treatment room, a chronic disease management room and a large lecture room for weekly CPD Lectures. A staff room and onsite parking is also available. Doctor’s rooms are air conditioned and well equipped for normal GP services.  Physiotherapy, pathology, chemist, podiatrist, radiology, occupational therapist and our diabetes centre are all located on site.

 

SURGERY ROUTINE

Corio Medical Clinic is open Monday – Friday: 8am – 7pm, Saturday & Sunday: 9am – 3pm, and Public Holidays: 9am – 3pm. We currently have 12 Gp’s  and 5 nurses providing coverage throughout the week.

In our sister centres we have 2 -3 GPS working Monday to Friday 8.30 am – 5pm. These clinics also provide pathology and/or a chemist on site.

 

TREATMENT ROOM

Our treatment room  is designed to support our GP’s and the triage of patients. The treatment room has 5 cubicles, with its own waiting area also. Our Nurses handle minor trauma and emergencies. We assist our resident cardiologist with Echo’s and our Skin doctor in skin cancer procedures. They do a lot wound care, cervical screen testing, Injections - medication administration.

ADMIN SETUP

Our clinics are supported by a Business/Practice Manager along with a front desk supervisor. We are fully computerised and using Zedmed for our front desk and clinical software system. You are also supported by front desk support staff and admin staff to assist you throughout the day. Our clinic is fully accredited.
