Surgery Overview:
Yeomans Medical Practice has been established in Mackay for over 35 years. The surgery was originally based in an old 2 storey Queenslander but its growth was constrained by lack of space. The current owners (principal GP and Business Manager) took over the surgery in 2016 and decided to relocate it to new, purpose built premises which has been designed and fitted out to a high standard. The surgery is now a modern, spacious facility with plenty of space for doctors and staff, and wheelchair access
Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced VR GP with a genuine desire to be a part of a team who is as patient focused as we are. Occupational Health experience / interest in learning would be beneficial. We would be happy to assist a doctor interested in Occ Health to get up to speed with some inhouse training. We would prefer a full time with hours of: Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm. There are No on call, after hours, or nursing home visits and no teaching responsibilities. A competitive percentage rate is offered dependant on skills and experience.
Surgery Layout:
Yeomans Medical Practice has: 4 consultation rooms, one large treatment room with two separate cubicles, a Vaccination Room stocked with all Travel Vaccines, an Occupational Health Tech room, Sound Reduction Audiometry Booth, a Drug & Alcohol Testing Room, Staff Room, onsite parking for Doctors and a large reception area. The whole practice is fully air-conditioned.
Clinical Services:
In additional to the normal day to day general practice, Occupational Health represents a significant proportion of our patient services with between 60 – 90 pre-employment medicals and fitness for work assessments conducted each week, largely for the mining industry. We also complete a large number of Functional Capacity Evaluations as part of our Occ Health Services. Our surgery is very well setup to perform medical assessments, with the dedicated services of an Occ Health Technician as well as a Sound Reduction Audiometry Booth and a drug and alcohol testing room. We have a separate area from the General Practice where all testing is completed. It contains equipment such has weights & steps for Queens College and Chester step tests. Our Occ Health Technician is trained to perform: spirometry, audiogram, drug and alcohol testing and other general screening components of medicals. Our doctors also provide more general medical services such as Skin Checks & perform minor procedures & excisions. We are equipped with a Venous Doppler and INR.
Administration:
Our surgery Consulting Hours are Monday to Friday: 8.00am – 5.00pm. A normal day is made up of two sessions: 8.00am – 12pm and 1pm-5pm. There are no weekend, after hours or on call work requirements. Appointments are scheduled in 10 or 15 minute time-slots. We currently have 1 full time and 1 part time GP. Yeomans Medical Practice has 3 Full time reception staff, a Full Time practice manager and a full time business manager. Our surgery is AGPAL accredited and patient files are fully computerised. We use Best Practice and Medical Objects for our clinical administrative functions.

RA2 Inner Regional Area, Distribution Priority Area
Treatment Room:
Our treatment room has two cubicles identically set up for emergencies, minor operations, dressings etc. We are fully computerised and equipped with ECG, Spirometry, Venous Doppler, Instrument cleaner & steriliser. Our nursing staff are comprised of 1 full time Registered Nurse and 1Part time Endorsed Enrolled Nurses (3 / 4 day’s week). We have two Nurses rostered on most days. They can assist with Care Plans, health assessments, diabetic reviews, asthma care plans & recalls.
Surgery Billing:
We are a mixed billing, NOT a bulk billing clinic. Our Standard consult fee is $85. As a general rule Pensioners, HCC Holders and children <16 yrs of age are Bulk Billed. We generally leave the billing for our patients to the Dr’s discretion. Dr’s remuneration for completing Pre-employment medicals ranges from $55 - $98.
Circumstances:
We are a growing practice, one of our long-term full time GP’s has recently accepted a new role and our current GP’s cannot take on any new patients. The departing GP’s patient base remains with us, creating a great opportunity for an incoming doctor.
