Hilltop Medical have a vacancy for a permanent General Practitioner in our medical practice in Merrylands, near Parramatta, in Western Sydney. Located in close proximity to the Merrylands shopping precinct and the Parramatta CBD, we have a large resident population base, assuring robust patient demand into the future.

SURGERY OVERVIEW
Hilltop Medical Practice is a long-established, group, family general practice located in Merrylands, in the outer western suburbs of Sydney. It provides a comprehensive medical service to the local community. We are a caring and professional group practice which is open reasonable hours and Bulk Bills most consultations.
We are committed to promoting health, wellbeing and disease prevention to all patients. We are non- discriminatory in the provision of excellent care and aim to treat all patients with dignity and respect. Our GPs’ special interests include: Women’s Health, General Health, Well Being & Preventative Health, Pediatrics and contraceptive implants. We are not a training practice.
Hilltop Medical is located only 4 minutes from a Shopping Centre, Xray/Ultrasound Services, and Specialists Clinic. Westmead Hospital is only 7 minutes’ drive from the practice. Bus Stop is just outside the practice and nearest train station is Merrylands Train Station which is just 5 minutes’ drive from the Practice.
SURGERY OWNERSHIP
There have been two ownership changes since the surgery was established. Dr Desai was the initial owner and worked in the practice for many years. In 2004 he sold it to Rahul Nand who is now the sole owner of the practice.
OUR DOCTORS
Dr Shirani Rodrigo (MBBS, FRACGP) joined our practice in 1999. She is fluent in Sinhala- a language predominantly spoken among the Sri Lankan community. Her special interests include: Women’s Health, General Health, Well Being & Preventative Health
Dr Lalita Prasad (MBBS, MD, FRACGO) joined the practice in 2000. She is fluent in Hindi, Tamil and Bengali.
Her special interests include: Pediatric, Women’s Health, contraceptive implants.
MEDICARE STATUS
Hilltop Medical Centre is located in Merrylands, an RA1 area and is not a District of Workforce Shortage.
SURGERY LAYOUT
Our practice has four consultation rooms, a treatment room, and a staff room. We have patient wheelchair access from the front door to reception and through to our consultation rooms. Onsite parking is available for patients and staff. External and internal lighting is sufficient to facilitate safe access for staff, visitors and patients at night. There are sufficient signs are provided externally and internally to assist staff, visitors and patients in accessing the practice facilities. Reverse Cycle Aircon is available. A height adjustable bed is available when needed for patients with a disability.
SURGERY ROUTINE
Hilltop Medical Centre’s consulting hours are
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday & Friday: 8.00am to 7.00pm,
Tuesdays: 8.00am to 6.00pm
Saturdays 8.00am to 11.00am.
We are closed on Sundays.
Home visits are available during surgery hours. Home visit appointments can be made outside surgery hours by prior arrangement with the receptionist and at the discretion of the doctor.
Our practice has 2 doctors consulting on most days. Normal consultations are scheduled in 10 minutes timeslots, for an average of 6 patients in an hour.
TREATMENT ROOM
Our practice has a one bed treatment room, with all the basic equipment and emergency drugs expected in general practice. This includes adjustable bed, spirometry, electrocardiograph and defibrillator etc. Our equipment is maintained to a safe and serviceable standard at all times.
ADMIN SETUP
The practice is supported by a Practice Manager, Practice Nurse, and admin & reception staff. We operate a fully computerized system using Medical Director and Pracsoft 3.17.3a. Our practice is accredited.
NURSING SERVICES
Hilltop Medical Centre has a Registered Nurse, who is qualified to perform immunisations, spirometry, ECG, suture removals as well as able to provide patient education where required. They will soon be able to collect bloods.
ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES
We have a psychologist and dietician available by appointments at the practice.
SPECIALIST SERVICES
Referrals are provided for specialist services, most of which are located a short distance from the practice.
DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
Douglass Hanly Moir Pathology Service is used by the practice. Pathology pickups are 3 times at day.
Xray/Ultrasound Services are 4 mins drive from the practice

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

Most of our patients have been coming to the practice for more than 10 years. We are a family based General practice and our patients come from a wide range of ages and ethnic backgrounds.
BILLING ARRANGEMENTS
Most consultations are Bulk Billed for patients with a Medicare Card. For patients without a Medicare card, the Schedule Fee is charged. Some consultations such as Insurance and Employment related medicals do not qualify for Medicare Rebate.
PATIENT DEMAND
Our appointment times are 10 minutes per appointment, for with an average of 6 patients per hour. Walk ins are also available creating the possibility to occasionally exceed 6 patients per hour.
We are a busy medical practice with doctors booked out up to a week in advance. Whilst we do our best to avoid it patients can occasionally wait up to an hour to see a doctor.
TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES
Our medical practice is located only 5 minutes away from Stocklands Mall, with a wide range of shops and services. A wide range of specialist and diagnostic services are available nearby, along with Westmead Hospital.
The city of Parramatta is in the neighbouring suburb with a full range of shopping, entertainment and business services.
SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT.
Hilltop Medical are seeking a generalist GP, with experience in a broad range of presentations, across all age groups.
CIRCUMSTANCES
The surgery is more than 40 years old with solid patient base and increasing day by day. Upon retirement of Dr Desai a position has become vacant.
CONTRACT TERMS

Rate is 70% of billing or $150/hour

Guaranteed income for 3 months
LOCUM TERMS
We prefer a full time GP however we would be happy to consider a locum, particularly one with a view to a permanent commitment. The rate for Locums will the same as our permanent position.
