IWC holds ISO Quality Management accreditation, is a member of the Royal College of General Practitioners (RACGP) and in 2016 was named national Aboriginal Medical Service of the Year by Australian General Practice Accreditation Ltd (AGPAL).

OUR DOCTORS
IWC has a team of GPs (all qualified to supervise), Indigenous Health Practitioners, RNs, ENs, Reception and Administration staff. Our holistic, whole-of-person model of care includes case conferencing and offers streamlined referrals to a range of specialist and Allied Health services under our own roof. Stage 1 of the IWC Health & Wellbeing complex is 3000sqm, and with the opening of Stage 2 in 2019 will expand to 7000 sqm.
Current Specialist / Allied Health services include: Cardiology, Ophthalmology, Podiatry, Exercise Physiology, Physiotherapy, Endocrinology, Diabetes Education, Dietetics, Psychology, Acupuncture, Pathology, Midwifery and Pharmacy. In 2019, the IWC Health & Wellbeing Gymnasium and Turkish Baths will open, and we will further expand our GP base as well as our range of Specialist / Allied Health services.
IWC also has Family & Community services to empower and support our clients / patients.
MEDICARE STATUS
IWC is District of Workforce Shortage (DWS) registered - VR and non-VR GPs welcome. We offer a flexible working environment that can accommodate all levels of skill and experience, and our team of permanent GPs are all qualified as Supervisors.
IWC works with the University of Queensland (UQ) Rural Clinical School to provide Rural Rotation opportunities for trainee doctors, as well as Queensland University of Technology (QUT), the Remote Vocational Training Scheme and TAFE.
SURGERY LAYOUT
IWC Medical Centre is state-of-the-art and purpose built. It has a large waiting room area with reception, soundproof children’s waiting area and nurses’ station. There are two 12 consult rooms. The IWC Health & Wellbeing Complex has won awards for both design and construction.
Each GP has a dedicated consult room with natural light, and the complex has smart technology and Telehealth operations. IWC has an in-house IT team onsite.

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS
IWC Medical Centre works in an area of high disadvantage and strong community spirit. Around 85% of our clients have one or more chronic diseases and complex conditions. More than 93% of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander population access one or more of IWC’s services, all of which are culturally responsive. Dominant ethnic groups in the region are English, Australian, Irish, Scottish and German. Other ethnic groups include Filipino and Russian.
The region has an aging population, due in large part to its quality lifestyle and affordability.
BILLING ARRANGEMENTS
IWC has a mixed billing model, and due to the nature of the population demographics the majority of clients are bulk-billed.
PATIENT DEMAND
IWC has a waiting list of clients wishing to join our books. We have a Did Not Attend (DNA) policy in place which works to minimise non-attendance. IWC also provides a courtesy bus service within a 7km radius of the IWC Health & Wellbeing Complex, and transports clients in from rural and remote areas of the North Burnett.

Bundaberg has a population of 95,700 and is the 9th most populous city in Queensland. It has three hospitals, an airport, private and public schools, a university campus and a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) college. Bundaberg also offers access to the Great Barrier Reef, has scenic swimming beaches, national parks and is a market leader in eco-tourism. Bundaberg is an easy four-hour drive to Queensland’s capital, Brisbane. Within a few minutes’ drive of the centre, our staff can choose a beachside lifestyle in a resort or house, or a rural acreage.
