Kingsthorpe Medical is seeking a new permanent General Practitioner to join our brand new Medical Practice in the semi rural community of Kingsthorpe, near Toowoomba. Established in response to significant unmet patient demand in the area, our medical practice will be the most comprehensive medical facility west of Toowoomba and is expected to service many of the surrounding rural communities.

SURGERY OVERVIEW
Kingsthorpe Medical is a brand-new purpose build medical centre located within an equally new local shopping centre that has been established in the centre of Kingsthorpe. The shopping centre and our medical practice are both scheduled to open on 10th December 2018.
The Kingsthorpe Shopping centre will include a pharmacy, dentist, cafes and an IGA. Stages 2 & 3 of the shopping centre expansion are scheduled for 2019, which will then place our medical centre at the heart of Kingsthorpe’s shopping area.
Our surgery will have the capacity for 2 GPs and a full time practice nurse. Arrangements are in place to include a wide range of allied health and specialist services such as dietitian, exercise physiologist, diabetic educator, physio, psychologist and podiatrist. Pathology will also be available onsite.
Kingsthorpe Medical will be the most comprehensive medical facility West of Toowoomba, where many of the local patients currently have to go in order to see a GP. We are expecting to gain a significant number of our patients from the numerous rural communities West of Kingsthorpe, who do not have any local medical services.
Kingsthorpe is a small, friendly country town located 15 mins West of Toowoomba. Our population is estimated to be about 4000 people. Despite that Kingsthorpe is a very fast growing community who have struggled for some time to access local GP services, particularly bulk billing ones and many are commuting to Toowoomba to see a doctor
SURGERY OWNERSHIP
Toni Burgess owns and manages Kingsthorpe Medical in partnership with her two business partners. Toni comes with 6 years hands on experience in Practice Management in the area.
MEDICARE STATUS
We will be a fully bulk billing medical clinic. Kingsthorpe is classified as an Inner Regional Area and is rated RA2. We are not a DWS location.
SURGERY LAYOUT
The clinic has been designed to be a very cheery bright clinic with everything new and exciting.

3 consult rooms (2 GP rooms & 1 Allied Health/Specialist room)
2 bed Treatment room

SURGERY ROUTINE
The clinic’s opening hours are scheduled to be Monday to Friday: 7.30am until 5pm and Saturday mornings from 8am until 12.00 noon
Appointment times can be catered to the doctor’s preference but we estimate 10-15 minutes. Online bookings will be available via our website.
TREATMENT ROOM
Treatment room facilities will include a two bed treatment room and a separate nurse consulting room. We will have a full time nurse on duty during surgery hours and all of the standard treatment room equipment that is required, including Spirometry, ECGs and minor procedures.
ADMIN SETUP
Kingsthorpe Medical will be set up as a fully computerised, paperless practice, using Best Practice software. Onsite IT support and a practice manager will be on location at all times
NURSING SERVICES
Full time registered nurse will be on duty for all surgery consulting hours and will be capable of doing care plans and assisting all procedures.
ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES
Negotiations are well advanced to include a visiting dietitian, exercise physiologist, diabetic educator, physiotherapist, psychologist and a podiatrist.
SPECIALIST SERVICES
The nearest specialist services are located in Toowoomba.
DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
QML will be available onsite for all surgery consulting hours.
The nearest Xray facilities are in Toowoomba (15 mins away)
OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES
Happy to work with doctor if they have a particular clinical interest.
PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS
Kingsthorpe’s local community is made up of young families, elderly retirees and the local farming community. Our surgery is expecting significant demand from a number of rural communities west of Kingsthorpe that don’t have their own medical services.

PATIENT DEMAND
Patient demand is yet to be tested but it is thought to be more than sufficient to keep several doctors busy given the limited GP services in Kingsthorpe and our favourable positioning and ease of access for many rural communities.
TOURIST INFORMATION
Kingsthorpe is a semi rural community, 147km from Brisbane and only 15 minutes from Toowoomba in the Darling Downs region of South West Queensland. The nearby town of Toowoomba is a large rural town with plenty of shopping, dining and entertainment facilities and home to the annual Carnival of Flowers.
Take a quiet side-track from the Warrego Highway or New England Highway to find the hamlet of Kingsthorpe. Kingsthorpe is just a 15-minute panoramic drive west of Toowoomba.
Home to both Gowrie Mountain Estate Vineyard and Cellar Door and also Wedgetail Ridge Estate Winery, which are open by appointment. Gowrie Mountain Estate offers accommodation onsite in the historic homestead, while Sugarloaf Mountain Country Retreat, just up the road offers accommodation close to both wineries.
The eastern part of the area has several scenic lookouts which provide expansive views over Rosalie Plains and portions of the Darling Downs. One of the most easily accessible is located just outside Kingsthorpe at Mt Kingsthorpe Park and is well worth a look. A graded walking track from the lookout's car park takes visitors to the summit, which provides expansive views as well as a glimpse of some of the original rainforest vegetation that once covered all of Mt Kingsthorpe.

CIRCUMSTANCES
This will be a brand new clinic but will be fully staffed from the outset with admin, reception, nursing and allied health personnel.
CONTRACT TERMS
Our contract terms are negotiable, depending on the doctor, but would include a competitive percentage and a minimum guaranteed hourly rate until the doctor is up to speed.
LOCUM TERMS
Locum doctors able to offer us a minimum of 4 weeks would be welcomed. Transport and accommodation assistance will be provided.
