SURGERY OVERVIEW

Macksville Medical Centre is a privately owned medical practice based in Macksville and with a branch surgery (Hibiscus Medical Rooms) located nearby in Nambucca Heads. Both of our surgeries are digitally linked and are fully accredited with AGPAL.

We pride ourselves on providing a very personalised level of medical care and believe that a good General Practice relationship with our patients is central to good medical care. Our practice is staffed by three wonderful specialist GPs with a wide range of clinical skills, supported by a team of nurses and reception staff. Our Macksville surgery is the oldest established practice in the Nambucca Valley, the owner and principal having been there for 42 years.

The Macksville Hospital (which is part of the Coffs Harbour Health Campus) is located only a few hundred metres from our surgery, as is the Ambulance & Fire Service. A new Macksville Hospital is currently being built and is expected to be operational by 2020. Macksville CBD has Dentists, Lawyers, Accountants, Retirement Villages, Supermarkets, Dept Store, Electrical Goods, & many Restaurants, Clubs & Hotels.  The two towns have extensive Industrial Estates & many Real Estate Agents, Caravan Parks, Motels.  Macksville & Nambucca Heads have their own Railway Station, and coaches also service these towns. We are 35 mins away on the new Pacific Motorway to Coffs Harbour Airport, which is serviced by Qantas, Virgin, Tiger & Fly Corporate to Sydney (55 mins), Melbourne (2 hrs), Brisbane (60 mins).  There is also an airport at Port Macquarie. We have a number of good quality schools in Macksville & Nambucca Heads, both public & private, as well as many coaches leaving each day to educational facilities in Coffs Harbour, which also has the Southern Cross University, and the National Marine Science Centre.

This is a unique opportunity for a GP to not only become part of a team of local health professionals, but also to enjoy a lifestyle which is the envy of many people living in the major cities. We have at least 20 enquiries each week for a Doctor to care for the needs of people in this area, so it won't be difficult to fill your books, and you can earn an excellent remuneration for your services.

SURGERY OWNERSHIP

Our Macksville & Hibiscus Medical Rooms are privately owned by the Principal.  There is the possibility of joining the business side of this practice after a qualifying period.

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

This is largely a retirement/holiday area. Patient demographics is mainly comprised of retirees, a local farming community and holiday makers. However with the new motorway upgrade and proximity to Coffs Harbour a much younger demographic is moving into the area. But still again, mainly country Australians. Chronic diseases relating to our demographics include obesity, and metabolic disorders (including diabetes, vascular diseases, with its associated concomitants, like chronic kidney failure etc).

BILLING ARRANGEMENTS

We are a mostly bulk billing practice, but private billing is at the Doctor's discretion.

PATIENT DEMAND

The Mid North Coast of NSW is an area of significant medical need. We turn away at least 20 potential patients per week so you will be looking to close your books in less than a year. Because of the wonderful climate here it attracts quite a number of aged folks, AND many young people are returning to live here now with their young families.

TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES

Macksville is a small semi-rural town nestled on the banks of the Macksville River in the Nambucca Shire, midway between Brisbane and Sydney. Nambucca Valley has a total population of around 20,000, swelling to greater numbers in the holiday season. There is plenty of very affordable, quality housing within minutes of both of our surgeries and we are surrounded by stunning natural beauty, fabulous uncrowded beaches, rivers & mountains. A brand-new school has just opened up close by, adding to the older, well-established local schools. Coffs Harbour with its modern jet airport and Southern Cross University is just 35 minutes away now on the new Pacific Motorway. Sydney is a 55 minute flight away, and Melbourne is 2hrs direct with Tiger. We are serviced by Qantas, Virgin, Tiger & Fly Corporate.

TOURIST INFORMATION

Whilst Macksville is a popular tourist destination in its own right, we have a number of great towns surrounding us. SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT

We are ideally looking for one or two VR unrestricted GPs and vacancies for VMOs at the local hospital are available if you are interested. With the new Macksville Hospital now underway, we envisage there will be quite a demand for VMOs and an increase in demand for GPs.

CIRCUMSTANCES

Over the last few years we have had Doctors retiring, moving back home, natural attrition, etc, & these vacancies have not been filled. We are a burgeoning area with a resurgence of young families coming to live here now, along with a growing population of elderly folk because of the temperate climate. In addition to this we have three Retirement Villages in the area. Our Principal is happy to wind back his hours (partially retire) to support any incoming GPs so there will be plenty of loyal patients to keep an incoming doctor busy, not to mention the inquiries we have each week.

CONTRACT TERMS

Whilst we are ideally looking for two full time GPs, part time hours can also be accommodated. The position offers as much or as little after-hours work as you wish, including additional work at the Retirement Villages if you are interested.

You pay 30% of billings until established, then negotiable. There is the potential to earn a very attractive remuneration package, even working part time.

$18,000 annual GP location incentive, RA 3 area. We are not a Training Practice.

Invitation to join the business side of the practice with envisaged significant bonus once established.

LOCUM TERMS

We would like a Locum for three months:  Sept, Oct, Nov this year - with optional dates.

We are offering $160 per hour for 20-24 hrs per week. Hours are negotiable.

We are happy to consider covering flights, car and accommodation. Details to be negotiated.

GENERAL COMMENTS

Macksville and it surrounds is an incredibly beautiful area in which to live, and there is a huge demand for doctors, so your books will be quickly filled. Great potential to earn a very good remuneration while living a slower pace of life, without the trauma of traffic, high rents, smog & fog.
