Maudsland Medical Centre has a vacancy for a new permanent general practitioner in Maudsland on the Gold Coast. Located in a thriving tourist area with a strongly growing population and significant shortage of general practice services you can be sure of developing a strong and reliable private practice.

SURGERY OVERVIEW

Maudsland Medical Centre was established in 2010 with a vision to bring back the family GP to the local community. We are located within the Maudsland Central shopping strip along with 10 other retailers on Maudsland Road, a major arterial link through the Gold Coast Hinterland, five minutes west of the Pacific Motorway and most of the Gold Coast’s major theme parks. The area is experiencing significant residential growth but has relatively few medical practices for the population.

Co-located with a Pharmacy, the clinic allows our patients to access their healthcare needs close to home and in the one location. We are a very family friendly practice with the core goals of working together as a team to improve our patient’s health in a respectful manner. Our small size allows us to establish closer relationships with our patients and provide a more memorable experience for our patients. We are well known in the community for our friendly rapport with our patients and high standard of care.

Maudsland enjoys the peaceful ambience of the Gold Coast hinterland whilst being only 10km from the heart of the Gold Coast with all of its cafes, restaurants, shopping centres and entertainment complexes. There is a wide range of quality schools and day care centres within 5 minutes of our centre including the very reputable Gaven State School.

We are a privately-owned medical practice, under the ownership of the adjoining pharmacist.

OUR DOCTORS

Maudsland Medical Centre currently have a team of two excellent GPs on staff with a strong patient following due to the lack of doctors in the area. Our male doctor is an easy-going GP who is popular with his patients and provides a broad range of general practices services with an emphasis on chronic disease. Our female doctor has been with our practice for four years. She has a strong patient following in all areas of general medicine and chronic disease.

SURGERY LAYOUT

Maudsland Medical Centre is a modern clinic with a family friendly ambience. We have 3 consulting rooms, 1 double bed treatment room, a staff room, onsite undercover parking, onsite pathology and a pharmacy attached to the clinic.

SURGERY ROUTINE

Our consulting hours are Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 5.30pm. We have 1-2 GPs onsite each day and would love to extend clinic hours as circumstances permit, Appointments are generally scheduled in 15 minute time slots and bookings are preferred.

TREATMENT ROOM

We have a 2 bed treatment room, equipped for procedures, emergencies and general medical requirements, including an ABI machine.

ADMIN SETUP

Maudsland Medical Centre is 5th edition accredited. We are a fully electronic, paperless practice using Pracsoft and Medical director.

We have one full time receptionist on duty during surgery hours.

NURSING SERVICES

We have a Full time RN and EEN on duty during normal business hours. They are IV cannulation endorsed and offer phlebotomy services, care plans, health assessments and emergency care.

ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES

We do not have any allied health services onsite, but a full range of Allied Health Services is available in Oxenford and surrounding suburbs of the Gold Coast.

SPECIALIST SERVICES

We do not currently offer any onsite specialist services, but a wide range of specialist services is available in the local neighbourhood. We also have 6 public and private hospitals located within 10km of our clinic.

DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

Maudsland Medical Centre has QML pathology available onsite and radiology services are located a short distance from the clinic.

OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES

Our medical centre offers a range of additional services including excisions, cosmetic injections, microdermabrasion, laser hair removal, platelet rich plasma and skin needling. We have a cosmetic injectable nurse to assist with these services.

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

The patient demographics of Maudsland is typical of the Gold Coast at large. There is a broad mix of young families, working aged, the elderly and retired. Our patients come from a wide range of ages, professions, ethnicities and lifestyles, providing plenty of clinical variety for our doctors. We also have a large number of tourists visiting the area on a daily basis.

BILLING ARRANGEMENTS

MMC has established itself as a bulk billing clinic for all Medicare card holders. All other patients, most of whom are overseas visitors, are privately billed at the rate of $77 for a standard consultation. We are open to implementing a mixed billing arrangement for any incoming GP.

PATIENT DEMAND

Appointment times are usually scheduled in 15 minutes time slots and double appointments are available on request. Our doctors are averaging 4 patients per hour and booked up 3-4 days in advance.

There are very few clinics for the large residential developments that are occurring nearby, creating a strong and growing patient demand. Nearby surgeries experience long delays and are booked out a week in advance. We are very confident that an incoming GP will fill their appointment book very quickly.

TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES

Oxenford is a suburb located at the Northern end of the Gold Coast in Queensland. With a population of approx. 11,000 people, Oxenford lies to the west of the Pacific Motorway, some 7 kilometres from Runaway Bay. Oxenford has expanded in recent years with the subdivision Studio Village being built in the southern end of the suburb, adjacent to the two major theme parks; the subdivision itself was inspired by Movie World, with the street names all referring to objects or people within Hollywood and film culture. It lies within easy access of the best dining, sports and entertainment facilities that the Gold Coast has to offer. There are a number of excellent schools within an easy commute of Oxenford, including the very reputable Gaven State School.

It’s difficult to believe but this rather unassuming suburb, which lies just off the Pacific Highway between Brisbane and the Gold Coast, is home to some of the best movie-making facilities in Australia. Oxenford, which borders Coomera and the theme park mecca which is Dreamworld, Warner Bros. Movie World, Wet’n’Wild, and The Australian Outback Spectacular, can lay claim to Village Roadshow Studios. Here, world-class film production facilities include eight sound stages, ten production offices, editing suites, wardrobe, makeup, construction, paint and carpentry shops. A number of high-profile Australian and international movies have been filmed and produced here and Oxenford is slowly being etched in to the psyche of international film makers.

TOURIST INFORMATION

The Gold Coast's star attraction is its beaches, including the world-renowned stretch of sand at Surfers Paradise. Beyond the beaches, discover laid-back neighbourhoods, a booming culinary scene, the Gold Coast's famous theme parks and the subtropical rainforests and waterfalls.

The Gold Coast is renowned for its white sand beaches that stretch across 57 kilometres (35 miles) of coastline. Choose from the sheltered waters at Coolangatta and Currumbin beaches or the popular surfing breaks at Main Beach or Burleigh Heads. Wave Break Island lies just off Main Beach and offers fantastic snorkelling and diving, with more than 50 species of fish. As well as its beaches, the Gold Coast is equally famed for its world-class theme parks such as Wet n Wild, Warner Brothers Movie World, Dream World and Sea World.

SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT

We are seeking a VR GP with a broad range of clinical skills and interests and will do our best to support any clinical interests you wish to pursue.

Our practice holds a DWS classification so doctors under restrictions are welcome to apply.

CIRCUMSTANCES

Our need for an additional GP arises from strong population growth, growing patient demand and a lack of local general practice services.

CONTRACT TERMS

We are flexible with your consulting hours but a Full time GP able to cover hours from Monday to Saturday would be ideal. We can offer remuneration of $150 per hour or 70% of billings.

GENERAL COMMENTS

We are a very tight knit family practice who know most of our patients by name. Our patients derive a great deal of comfort from this personal relationship and know that we will always do our best to look after them. We have a very loyal patient base and are confident any incoming doctor will quickly develop a consistent following.
