Bundaberg is an RA2 area but not a DWS location.

 

SURGERY LAYOUT

Millbank Medical Practice is located on two floors of a modern airconditioned premises, directly over the road from Bundaberg Hospital. Our practice consists of 7 consulting rooms, 2 nurse’s rooms, 2 dedicated treatment rooms and an audiologist consulting room with sound proofing. We also have a large boardroom, plenty of onsite parking and a lift to use between our two levels. All rooms have room controlled aircon and most have natural lighting.

 

SURGERY ROUTINE

Our surgery hours are Monday to Friday: 8.30am to 5.00pm, Saturdays: 9am to 11am.

We have 4-6 doctors working most days. Saturdays are shared on a rotational basis.

Our Appointment schedule is based on 15 minute appointments.

 

TREATMENT ROOM

Millbank Medical Practice has two treatment rooms, one on each level of our practice. Each treatment room has only one bed to ensure patient privacy. We are fully equipped to accreditation standards and in addition have a Molemax machine for skin checks and a retinal camera for eye examinations.

 

ADMIN SETUP

We are a paperless practice, all paper based medical records having been scanned into our system 10 years ago. We are using Best Practice for both Clinical and Administrative functions. Our admin staff is made up of 1 Receptionist, 3 medical assistants (whom also provide admin duties) and a practice manager. Our practice manager is very experienced and well qualified for her full-time role at the practice and is also an active State Committee Member of the AAPM. We are fully accredited with AGPAL through to January 2020.

NURSING SERVICES

We have two RNs and 2EENs on staff at the moment. One of our RNs provides Diabetes education and incontinence education. In addition, we have 3 medical assistants who also perform admin duties.

Our nursing services include: Holter Monitors, ECGs, Spirometry, Doppler, Audiometry, Pregnancy & Urine testing, Wound care & vaccinations

 

ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES

We have an Audiologist onsite for 2 days a week. There is a full range of allied health services available within 10 minutes of the surgery.

 

SPECIALIST SERVICES

Bundaberg Base Hospital is located over the road from the surgery. It is a major public hospital with a full range of specialist services.

 

DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

Both Sullivan Nicolaides and QML Pathology are located within 50 metres of our surgery. Likewise, Bundaberg Radiology and Imed Radiology are also within walking distance of the surgery.

 

OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES

In addition to our normal general practice, Millbank Medical provides the following clinical services: Skin Cancer Screening, Audiology, Lifestyle medicine, Nutrition, Preventative Medicine, Excisions/Biopsies, Contraceptive insertion & removal, Retinal scans, Health assessments, Diabetes Risk evaluation, Chronic disease management, Care plans, Medication reviews, Lung function management, Pre employment medicals, Travel medicine (including Yellow Fever), Dive Medicals and Mental health.

 

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

Bundaberg is best known for its long history in sugar cane farming, an industry which remains strong to this day. The city however has grown in size to become the 10th largest city in Queensland. Bundaberg has predominantly a family-oriented population, working across an even mix of occupations such as: labourers, professionals, trade workers, managers, administration, community workers, sales and heavy industry.

Patient demographics are mixed between new families and retirees. Bundaberg has a significant number of complex chronic disease patients with multiple co-morbidities.

 

BILLING ARRANGEMENTS

Millbank Medical is a mixed billing practice, charging $65 for a Level B and $120 for a Level C

 

PATIENT DEMAND

Patient demand is consistently strong with our doctors averaging 4 patients per hour. Our appointment schedule is usually booked up 1-2 weeks in advance.

 

TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES

Bundaberg has a population of 95,700 and is the 9th most populous city in Queensland. It has three hospitals, an airport, private and public schools, university campus and a Technical and Further Education (TAFE) college. Bundaberg also offers access to the Great Barrier Reef, has scenic swimming beaches, national parks and is a market leader in eco-tourism. Bundaberg is an easy four-hour drive to Queensland’s capital, Brisbane. Within a few minutes’ drive of the centre, our staff can choose a beachside lifestyle in a resort or house, or a rural acreage.

 

TOURIST INFORMATION

Bundaberg is in a word a hidden gem. Doctors often come to Bundaberg with negative expectations but once they settle in they are thrilled with the climate, friendliness of the people; beauty of the environment and proximity to the Great Barrier Reef.

Bundaberg is in the heart of the Sunshine State. It is an easy drive to Queensland’s capital, Brisbane, and enjoys a sub-tropical climate. The mean daily maximum temperature is highest in January at 30.3 °Celsius, and the mean daily minimum is lowest in July at 9.9 °C. We have safe swimming beaches and are national leaders in eco-tourism.

The region has vineyards, national parks, an active business and professional community, and affordable housing. You can choose apartment living on the oceanfront, a family-friendly suburban home, or a rural life.

Bundaberg offers access to the Great Barrier Reef and a range of activities including diving, snorkelling, canoeing, fishing and crabbing.

 

SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT

We are looking for an experienced generalist GP and an interest in teaching and mentoring would be highly regarded.

We would be happy to support any or most special interests – particularly skin as there is plenty of ongoing demand.

 

CIRCUMSTANCES

The vacancy is arising due the retirement of one of our doctors and growing patient demand. Millbank Medical would be a great place to practice at the high level of your training and pursue your special interests. There would also be opportunities to become involved with teaching medical students at local UQ campus and GP Registrar with JCU GP

 

CONTRACT TERMS

We are negotiable and flexible on all aspects of this permanent position including hours and remuneration.

There are no on call requirements, teaching is available if you have an interest, shared nursing home visits are also available.
