Miranda Medical Centre has a vacancy for a full time general practitioner in our state of the art medical centre in Miranda, in the heart of the Sutherland shire of South East Sydney. Our 20 doctor medical centre offers all of the facilities, admin & clinical support you will require to provide a high level of medical care to your patients.

SURGERY OVERVIEW

Miranda Medical Centre has been a part of the Sutherland Shire Community for over 25 years. Since opening in 1987, the centre has developed a strong reputation for providing quality health services to the residents of Miranda and surrounding areas. In 2013 we relocated to our current location and we now operate in outstanding new facilities, innovatively designed and equipped with the latest technology. We are a fully accredited practice with a team of 20 General Practitioners, along with a comprehensive range of Allied Health, specialists and diagnostic services provided on-site. We are a training practice, and have supervised many registrars, who have gone on to achieve their fellowship. Whilst our medical centre provides a broad range of general family medical services, many of our doctors have special interests, and we cater for each of these by incorporating clinics in; skin cancer, occupational health, cosmetic, and womens health. We are ideally located in the heart of Miranda’s CBD, close to the train station and bus stops and directly opposite the Miranda Westfields shopping centre. Sutherland Hospital is our nearest major tertiary hospital and is located only 1km from our medical centre.

SURGERY OWNERSHIP

We are a privately owned practice, backed up with more than 30 years of practice management experience.

OUR DOCTORS

Our practice currently has 20 General Practitioners and a number of them have practiced with us for over twenty years. We have a wide variety of General Practitioners from all backgrounds and experiences, working in our harmonious and team based practice.

MEDICARE STATUS

Miranda is classified as an RA1, Inner Metropolitan Area. As a Metropolitan practice in Sydney, we are looking for unrestricted Vocationally registered General Practitioners, but can also offer after-hours or 6 month locum positions to those doctors with 19ab restrictions.

SURGERY LAYOUT

Our surgery is a purpose built, state of the art facility with street front access. We are a fully air-conditioned centre with 21 consulting rooms, spacious waiting rooms, 4 treatment rooms (including two procedure rooms), 4 psychologist rooms, a range of allied health suites, a staff room, staff toilets, and a meeting room. We have a Pathology Collection centre, Radiology and Pharamcy all on-site.

SURGERY ROUTINE

Our practice is open 8am – 10pm weekdays, and 8am- 8pm Weekends and Public Holidays. We can offer flexible hours, and as we are a walk-in practice you can take as long with every patient as they require.

TREATMENT ROOM

We have four treatment rooms, two of which are designed as procedural rooms. We operate a skin cancer clinic at the practice, so we are also interested in talking with doctors who would like to specialise in skin cancer checks and procedures. We have all the essential equipment on-site including; an audiometry machine, spirometer, alcohol breath testing, and all emergency and skin cancer related equipment. Our nurses have also been trained in the management of fractures with plaster and fibreglass.

ADMIN SETUP

Miranda Medical Centre is a fully computerised and accredited facility, using Medical Director and Pracsoft. We have two practice managers, an accountant, and a large team of reception staff to provide all of the administrative support you need.

NURSING SERVICES

Our practice has 5 Full-time Registered Nurses, who have all been fully trained in General Practice Nursing. They can perform all general practice nursing duties and in addition have been trained to administer plaster and fibreglass of non-displaced fractures.

ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES

Our practice has a wide range of Allied health staff onsite, including four Psychologists, two Dietitians, three Dentists, three Physiotherapists, two Exercise Physiologists, a Chiropractor, a Podiatrist, and an Audiology Clinic.

SPECIALIST SERVICES

The following medical specialists visit our practice on a weekly or twice weekly basis; 2 Psychiatrists, a Geriatrician, an Orthopaedic Surgeon, a General Surgeon, a Gynaecologist, a Rehab/Pain Physician, and a General Physician. There is a full range of specialist services also available at our two local tertiary hospitals; Sutherland Hospital and St George Hospital.

DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES

Our practice has a SydPath Collection centre onsite, available for extended hours, seven days per week. We also have an Imed radiology centre onsite for X-Rays, which is open seven days per week.

OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES

Our practice has a large and well-established Skin Cancer Clinic. We have a number of doctors interested in occupational health, and we also have a cosmetic clinic and womens health clinic.

PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS

The Sutherland Shire has a largely Caucasian population. We see a wide mix of patient presentations, and our doctors enjoy the variety of medicine that this represents. We have a large elderly population, but also many younger families and working age groups.

BILLING ARRANGEMENTS

Our practice Bulk-Bills for all eligible services.

PATIENT DEMAND

We have an exceptionally high demand for our services, and all doctors are kept busy with a constant flow of patients during their working hours. Patient demand is particularly acute at the moment since the recent departure of two of our doctors, who returned to the UK.

TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES

Miranda is the commercial hub of the Sutherland Shire. We are close to the coast, have one of the largest Westfields in Australia directly opposite our building, and are fortunate to have an excellent local hospital nearby. It is a great area to bring up a young family, and is close enough to Sydney to be commutable for the universities and for doctors with spouses needing to work in the inner city.

SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT

Our practice has the size and infrastructure to cater for any special interest that you may have. We will actively promote your interests to our other clinicians and patients.

CIRCUMSTANCES

We have had two doctors return to the UK after working at our practice for a number of years, so we now require the services of an additional few doctors to cater for the patient demand generated by their absence.

CONTRACT TERMS

No On-call, nursing home or home visits are required (although nursing home visits can be arranged for a doctor who enjoys this work). We can offer you a choice of working hours. Competitive remuneration package will be offered, in line with our other doctors.

LOCUM TERMS

Doctors who are looking for weekend work, short-term locum work, or doctors looking for a position between locums are encouraged to contact us for a confidential discussion.
