SURGERY OVERVIEW
Mountain View Medical is a modern, fully accredited General Practice surgery that was established 34 years ago by Dr Robert Lanskey and has been the heart of healthcare in Mossman ever since. Our practice is one of only 2 practices in Mossman and 1 of only 4 practices in the Douglas shire that services around 11,000 individuals.
After the passing of Dr Lanskey in 2014, the surgery has undergone new ownership, which has breathed new life into the practice. Mountain View Medical has transformed into a multidisciplinary practice with a strong focus on holistic healthcare and taking the time to focus on the individual and their needs, not just addressing the symptoms they present with. Our future aim is to further develop the multi-disciplinary focus of the practice, to meet the changing needs of the practice patients and so they do not have to travel to Cairns for further definitive care.
Despite the changes, Dr Lanskey’s motto “Cure some, Care for all” still stands, and will always be integral to the care that is delivered by the Mountain View Team
Mountain View Medical is located on the main street of Mossman in close proximity to all amenities. There is onsite pathology and a pharmacy two doors down. Mossman is home to a small hospital with an Emergency department which also has small in-patient capabilities; it also caters for radiology and ultrasound.
SURGERY OWNERSHIP
The new owner of Mountain View Medical is an Exercise Physiologist, with a passion for chronic disease and a team-based approach to patient care.
OUR DOCTORS
The practice currently has 2 VR GP’s. One of our GPs has a special interest in Nutritional Environmental Medicine and the other a specialist in skin cancer.
MEDICARE STATUS
Mountain View is located in RRMA 5 (RA3) and is in a DWS area. We are able to accommodate level 2 supervision.
SURGERY LAYOUT
Our surgery has a large reception/ waiting area which is bright and modern. We have 4 consulting rooms; 2 with natural light, and 2 without. There is a large treatment room which has the potential to be split into two treatment rooms (or treatment room and chronic disease room) if necessary. We also have a team room, off street parking for team members, but on street parking for patients.
SURGERY ROUTINE
The practice is open Monday to Friday 8am-5pm; at present we do not open on weekend or after hours. Doctors operate on a 15 minute appointment only basis, longer appointments are encouraged as required. We run a bulk billed repeat script clinic Monday-Friday 1-1.45pm.
TREATMENT ROOM
At present the treatment room is set up with one bed and an area for chronic disease management. However, there is the possibility of increasing the number of beds in the treatment room and relocating the chronic disease management to another area. The treatment room is fully equipped for minor procedures such as biopsys, removal of skin cancers and moles, freezing therapy for sun spots and warts. We are also set up for diagnostics such as ECG’s. halter monitors and spirometry.
ADMIN SETUP
We have a practice manager and two part time admin assistants. At present we are using Medical Director and Pracsoft, however we will be switching to Best Practice at the end of the year. Similarly, we run a hybrid paper and digital system; however as of 1st January 2019 we will be switching to a digital system. The practice is accredited with AGPAL.

NURSING SERVICES
We currently have an RN onsite 32 hours a week. She is currently going through the process of becoming a credentialed diabetes educator and is developing our diabetes clinic.
ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES
The practice has 2 visiting psychologists, an exercise physiologist, audiologist, podiatrist, echocardiography sonographer, credentialed diabetes educator and dietitian.
DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
Sullivan Nicolaides pathology is on site. The Mossman Hospital conducts x-rays and ultrasounds; all other imaging/ diagnostics are completed in Cairns.
OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES
Skin Cancer Checks, minor surgery such as biopsies and excisions and freezing therapy.
PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS
The population of Mossman is around 2000, however the greater Douglas shire population is around 11,000. The indigenous population of Mossman is around 17%. The practice sees a wide mix of individuals, ranging from infants and young families to the elderly. The largest demographic is within the 45-65 year age bracket. Mossman is generally a working-class area, and this is reflected in the patient demographics. During the “dry” season, the population of the shire increases dramatically with tourists heading North to warmer climates.
We are located in Far North Queensland we do see more presentations of tropical conditions/diseases than other areas of Australia.
BILLING ARRANGEMENTS
The practice is a mixed billing practice with a 80/20 split. Our practice policy is that concession card holders, DVA card holders and school aged children are bulk billed. We are strategizing to increase private billings.
Standard consultation fees are: $72.00 for Item 23, $117 for a long consultation and $160 for an extended consultation
PATIENT DEMAND
Patients are booked in 15 minute increments, with doctors seeing 4 patients per hour. Our female Dr is currently booked out at least 1 week in advance and our male Dr is booked out 3-4 days in advance. The practice has not been accepting new patients for “X” number of years and we are turning patients away on a daily basis.
TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES
Mossman is a quaint rural town nestled at the foot of the mountains among bright green fields of sugar cane. 20 kms south of Mossman is the world renowned resort town of Port Douglas, to the North is the Daintree Rainforest, the world's oldest rainforest, and to the east is the Great Barrier Reef. Mossman boasts plenty of shops and amenities and Cairns is a short drive away for all major needs. Cairns is also serviced by an international airport. Mossman has a variety of schools and sports and recreation clubs. It is a beautiful location to escape to if you are looking for a change of pace and lifestyle.

SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT
We are looking for a Doctor that has an interest in holistic patient care and is looking to work within a multidisciplinary practice. We are more than happy to support a Doctor in their area of passion and support any clinics they may wish to establish.
CIRCUMSTANCES
Our practice principle is taking 12 months sabbatical thus there is a full patient load waiting for the new Doctor. The practice has not taken new patients for “X” number of years and we are turning patients away. Mossman and the Douglas shire has a general shortage of Doctors so there is a void to be filled.
CONTRACT TERMS
Doctors will be paid 65% of billings; there are no on call or after-hours responsibilities. We will offer a 3 month retainer of $150 per hour
LOCUM TERMS
Locum Doctors will be paid at 65% of billings or $150 per hour, whichever is greater. We will provide accommodation (2 bed villa, located 20 mins from the practice) car and assistance with flights. We would prefer a minimum of 8 weeks per locum.
