SURGERY OVERVIEW

Mowbray Medical was purchased by the current owners in August 2014. Prior to this, it had been operating as a solo practice on the same location for some 20 years. Since acquiring the practice, we have been slowly developing the practice facilities and building up our patient base.

Our initial step was to expand the surgery to the neighboring premises which allowed the addition of two more consulting rooms and a treatment room for our nurse. In 2016 we conducted further extensions to the practice, allowing additional consulting rooms, a larger treatment room, chronic disease management room, practice manager's office, an up-to-date administration area, staff kitchen and a pathology collection room for Tasmanian Medical Laboratories. In 2017 we added another treatment room, a larger waiting area and an allied health/training room.

Our practice policy statement is “Your health is our priority” and through this we strive to gain positive outcomes for our community. We pride ourselves on a positive and supportive work environment. We promote team-based learning and a team-based approach to care. We aim to provide the highest quality care and to advocate for our patients. We are always open to new and innovative ways to provide the best service possible.

Mowbray Medical is a training practice affiliated with General Practice Training Tasmania and the University of Tasmania. We routinely host 3rd & 5th year medical students and GP registrars at all stages.

Mowbray is part of Launceston, a regional city with extensive leisure, culinary and cultural facilities. With only a 5km drive to the city centre and a mere 10 min drive to the airport, what more could you ask for. It’s a great place to be. Launceston is a riverside city in northern Tasmania, Australia. It's famed for the Cataract Gorge, with panoramic views, walking trails, sculpted gardens and a chairlift. The Queen Victoria Museum, in a 19th-century railway workshop, has exhibitions on Tasmanian history. Its sister Art Gallery lies across the river, by sprawling Royal Park. The vineyards of the Tamar Valley stretch northwest along the Tamar River. The temperate, 4-season climate features mild summers and cool winters with morning fog; weather can be changeable at any time of year. Launceston hosts numerous outdoor concerts and food and wine tastings from local producers. It also showcases a number of independent and arthouse productions.

SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT

We are seeking a generalist GP but would love to find someone interested in being a supervisor and educator for future registrars. This will be a shared job with other practice doctors. Any incoming GPs should fit our practice culture and values and be willing to support us in maintaining a reliable service to our patients throughout the week.

CIRCUMSTANCES

Growing patient demand

CONTRACT TERMS

Our preference would be for a full time GP who is available for our listed surgery hours, however we would be happy to accommodate a GP who can offer a minimum of 4 days per week (8 sessions).

We offer generous percentage based remuneration rates, and are happy to negotiate with interested GPs.

We are hoping you can be part of the teaching team – this is paid at 100% teaching component of registrar and medical student

There will be no on-call responsibilities and we currently do not offer nursing home care, due to lack of time. This, however, can be looked at, if a GP is interested.
