SURGERY OVERVIEW
Mundaring Medical Centre has been servicing the local community since 1978 and has been owned and directed by the current Medical Practitioners since 1984. Our medical centre is made up of four Directors who consult full time and three part time associates. We have built up considerable respect in the local community over the last 40 years. We aim to make Mundaring Medical the preferred provider of family medicine in the community because of our close attention to personal service and our continuity of association with the local population.

Mundaring is 35 kilometres (45 minute drive) from the Perth CBD, and is one of the most Easterly urban medical centres.
SURGERY OWNERSHIP
Mundaring Medical Centre is a privately-owned practice, in partnership with four of our doctors.
The practice business structure is set up as a Unit Trust. The current directors/owners would be interested in recruiting a doctor who is looking for an opportunity to join the practice as co-director/owner. They will assist in the running of the practice and also benefit from profit distribution.
MEDICARE STATUS
Mundaring is an RA1 classified area and a District of Workforce Shortage. Yes, we are a training practice offering 100% level of supervision.

SURGERY LAYOUT AND FACILITIES
Our practice has 7 consulting rooms, a 4 bed treatment room and a 1 bed isolation room. In addition, we have a Sterilisation/Disposal room and a staff room with adjacent staff shower/toilet facility. There is a separate nurse reception area with two workstations and a nurse manager’s office adjacent. Our reception area has a capacity for 4 receptionists. Patient amenities are also available. There is ample onsite parking and a separate ambulance only entrance direct to the treatment room. All consulting rooms have plenty of natural light and individual reverse cycle aircon. Our reception waiting area has seating capacity for 24 patients. There is a separate practice manager’s office.
Our Consulting Hours are:
Monday to Friday: 8.00am – 6.00pm
Saturday: 8am to 12 noon.
Sunday and Public Holidays: 8.30am to 10.30am.
We are Closed Good Friday, New Year’s Day and Christmas Day.
We have 4-5 doctors on duty most days, along with 2-3 nurses and 3-4 reception staff. Our appointments are scheduled in 10 or 20 minute blocks, depending on the doctor. Our practice has walk-in appointments available. As well as our normal working hours we also provide an afterhours GP service practice only on a rotational basis.
TREATMENT ROOM
Mundaring Medical Centre has a 4 bed treatment room and 1 bed isolation room.
Our clinical equipment includes the following:
Vaccine Fridge, 5 x Electronic consulting beds, Doppler, LFT, ECG, Emergency Trolley, Oximeter, Oximeter – Pediatrics, Ear Syringe, Ability to handle minor trauma, Liquid Nitrogen, Auroscope and Sterilizer
ADMIN SETUP
Jane Smith is our Practice Manager and has been with Mundaring Medical Centre since 2006, starting as a front desk receptions, working up to 2IC and now Practice Manager. She is supported by highly skilled admin team. We have a total of 5 x reception staff, 3-4 on duty most days. We use Pracsoft for admin and Medical Director for clinical.


RECEPTION STAFF
Our reception staff are highly skilled with: Medicare Batching, Medical Typing, Scanning & Assigning Correspondence, Private and Bulk Billing, Phone Management, Register Management – ie overdue patients are identified at their time of booking to assist doctors.
NURSING SERVICES
Our nursing team is made up of two ENs and 5 RNs. Our nursing team is available for all surgery consulting hours and run clinics in CST Clinics, Chronic Disease Management and Annual Health Assessments home visits. They also assist with procedures.
ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES
We have visiting in-house dietitian and hearing service. We also have various allied health providers very close by, such as: podiatry, physiotherapy, audiology, dental, pharmacy, infant health, psychology.
SPECIALIST SERVICES
At this stage there are no visiting or in-house specialists. This is an area that the practice would like to review.
DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
At Mundaring Medical we have on site Australian Clinical Lab (pathology) which is open from 8am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 8am – 12 noon on Saturdays. Our nearest imaging facility would be Perth Radiology in the town of Midland which is approximately 15kms away.
OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES
Excisions, procedures such as ROL’s, Iron Infusions and contraceptive implants.
The practice is looking to expand and introduce skin cancer screening/clinics and offer procedural services such as vasectomy.
HOSPITAL FACILITIES
St John of God Midland hospital is our nearest and networked hospital. This is a new 307 public bed and 60 bed private hospital situated 18kms from Mundaring (15 minutes by ambulance). This hospital offers a range of medical and surgical services such as ED, maternity, mental health and therapy, rehabilitation services, pathology, radiology as well as resident and visiting specialists. It is a tertiary hospital and is staffed 24 hours. Mundaring Medical is not involved in hospital staffing.
PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS
Mundaring Shire serves a vast area of several thousand square kilometres, extending to the adjacent Shires of Swan, Toodyay, Northam, Beverly, York and Kalamunda, as well as remote and semi-isolated regions with a diverse population working in agriculture, farming, healthcare and community social services, education, FIFO construction, trade workers and technicians. The overall Mundaring town population is 39,174 with a diverse age group being 21.5% aged between 0-17 years, 23.1% 60 years and over.
Current ancestry dominance in Mundaring is English, Australian, Scottish, Irish and Italian.
BILLING ARRANGEMENTS
We are a mixed billing practice, we bulk bill Pension/HCC holders and children under 16 years. Our standard charge is $85. If patient pays on the day this is discounted to $77.
PATIENT DEMAND
All our doctors do 10 minutes appointments and see approximately 8 patients per hour. Dr Lithgow who is our only female doctor is in high demand and sometimes there is a patient wait time of about one week.
TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES
Mundaring is a suburb located 34 km east of Perth on the Great Eastern Highway. The suburb is located within the Shire of Mundaring. The Aboriginal name of the area "Mindah-lung", said to mean "a high place on a high place", was anglicised to become "Mundaring".
Mundaring is a pleasant town on the eastern edge of the Perth Hills. It's famous in Western Australia for the Mundaring Weir which, through the remarkable engineering achievements of Charles Yelverton O'Connor, has supplied water to towns in the wheatbelt and the gold towns of Kalgoorlie and Coolgardie. Since the dam was built people have come from Perth to marvel at this watery saviour of the Eastern Goldfields.
TOURIST INFORMATION
Swan Valley is 20 minutes from Mundaring which has many high quality wineries, chocolate factories, breweries, family friendly activities such as Super Golf and then there is always the real golf for the enthusiastic or competitive player. There is also a water park along with National Parks that accommodate bush walking, picnics etc. John Forrest National Park, Lake Leschenaultia and Mundaring Weir Dam and many heritage trails.
Canoeing on the Swan River, skydiving and ballooning in York, keen cyclists can ride the many heritage trails within the hills.
SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT
Procedure skills would be very desirable and an interest in setting up a skin clinic would also be of interest to the practice. We are looking for a doctor who will work full or part time and has experience working within the general practice setting. The practice team is very flexible and able to adjust doctor rosters/diaries as required so that family and work life are balanced for all.
CIRCUMSTANCES
The pending retirement of two of our doctors. As this occurs we will have the capacity and patient demand to accommodate 2 new doctors. Commencement will be timed to ensure a smooth transition and the incoming doctor has a full schedule from the outset.
CONTRACT TERMS
Two years with a view to extend.
Directorship/Ownership options if the match suits both parties
Some On-call
Weekend Roster – flexible roster with one rostered Saturday every 3-4 weeks.
Nursing and Home Visits are not part of the contract but can be incorporated if interested.
Rate of Pay:
Guaranteed $150/hour for first three months
60% receipts or as otherwise negotiated - the percentage is due to the high nursing and administrative support provided to doctors – thus reducing the time doctors have to spend on the administrative and nursing tasks. Additional benefits maybe negotiated after one year of continuous service.
Preferred Hours
30 consulting hours/week approximately
2 x early open sessions – first 8.00am
2 x late close sessions – last appt 5.50pm
1 x half day
This is totally negotiable/ flexible, practice is willing and able to work with an interested candidate on a roster that suits them.
