CORPORATE OVERVIEW

Downtown Medical have been providing high quality family health care in our 120 medical centres throughout Australia since 2005. Our organisation was born out of a perceived need to provide a higher, more consistent standard of clinical care through better designed and equipped medical centres and a higher level of training for our staff. With the resources only a large organisation can provide – we have established 120 purpose built medical centres, each of which has been designed from the ground up around our primary mission to create the highest possible standard of patient care. Our medical centres are all equipped with advanced computer systems integration, the very best clinical equipment, highly trained staff and all of the resources that our doctors require to pursue their clinical interests. All of our medical centres are carefully located in the central shopping or business precincts of their communities for high visibility and maximum convenience for both patients and staff.

 

MANAGEMENT

Our organisation was originally formed as a partnership between five smaller family medical centre organisations. Each of our business partners are highly qualified in the provision of family healthcare and have many years of experience in medical practice management. Their combination of on-the-ground experience and business acumen has formed a strong management team that will place us in good stead, many years into the future.

CLINICAL SERVICES

Downtown Medical centres are all designed as a “one stop shop” for all of our patients’ family health needs. Each of our medical centres have the following minimum onsite facilities; diagnostic imaging, pathology, pharmacy, fully equipped treatment rooms, skin cancer screening, procedure rooms, allied health services and specialist services. Our centres are all equipped to handle minor trauma, skin cancer screening, women & children’s health, travel medicine, Occ health and mental health. In addition, we routinely provide our doctors with the facilities they require to pursue a wide range of clinical interests such as; Cosmetics, Holistic medicine, Nutritional & Environmental Medicine, aviation & diving medicine.

OUR DOCTORS

Our doctors come from a wide range of backgrounds and skills sets. Throughout many of our medical centres, we have the capacity to accommodate; trainees, registrars and IMGs. Our doctors enjoy a large degree of flexibility in their working hours, which is made possible by the medium to large average size of our medical centres. They also retain full discretion over their clinical practice and billing arrangements.

OUR MEDICAL CENTRES

Our medical centres range in size from 5 doctors up to 20 doctors, depending on the needs of the local community. They have all been custom built from the ground up and carefully positioned in community hubs, shopping centres or business precincts, for maximum visibility and patient convenience. Our onsite patient facilities include: parking, wheelchair access, bathroom amenities, refreshments and children’s play areas. All of our centres are fully accredited and paperless, using Medical Director and Pracsoft.

CLINICAL SUPPORT

All of our centres provide full time RN nursing support for the duration of our advertised consulting hours. To the greatest extent possible we also offer a range of onsite allied health and specialist services. Our centres are all located within walking distance of pharmacy, pathology and radiology services and wherever possible these services are available onsite.

ADMINISTRATION

All of our Downtown Medical centres are fully computerised using Medical Director and Pracsoft. and integrated across the group, allowing patients to access their files from any of our medical centres throughout the country. All of our medical centres are accredited through AGPAL and have a well-trained team of reception and admin staff as well as full time onsite practice managers. Our regional managers provide round the clock administration and logistical support in areas such as extra nursing staff, IT support, payroll and other day to day administrative functions.

BILLING ARRANGEMENTS

Downtown Medical believe that our GPs should have full discretion over the clinical services they offer, the manner in which they are provided and the most appropriate fees for those services. Whilst we do have pricing guidelines for each of our medical centres, based on local demographics and socio-economic conditions, it is entirely up to individual GPs to set their own billing rates.
