SURGERY OVERVIEW
Westbury Doctors Surgery is part of the Advanced Rural Health group of surgeries. We leverage from having a wide spread coverage of health services and knowledge sharing across Tasmania. The group owns four surgeries based in rural areas of Tasmania. All surgeries are AGPAL accredited. Well supported by the local communities, with large following from patients. Some of our surgeries are training practices. The principal GP is a president of Musculoskeletal Medicine of Australia, therefore our surgeries will be of a great benefit to a GP who wants to learn more about management of chronic conditions.
The Westbury Doctors Surgery has been part of the group since 2014. In 2016 the building was extended and remodelled. The surgery is based in a small town, which is around 30 minuites drive from a major airport, hospital and the city of Launceston.
There is one other GP clinic in Westbury.
SURGERY OWNERSHIP
Our surgery is owned by the Advanced Rural Health Group of practices, which are privately owned by an experienced GP.
SURGERY LAYOUT
Westbury Doctors Surgery is located in a purpose built, modern building, with dedicated treatment rooms and comfortable furnishings. The surgery has four consult rooms, with separate nurses treatment rooms. The surgery also has a rehabilitation gym, which is utilized by our patients to manage chronic conditions. Our rehabilitation room is equipped with special equipment, supplied by HUR – leading rehabilitation manufacturer. All rooms are equipped with aircon/heatpump units, with natural lighting. We also have a staff kitchen.
SURGERY FACILITIES
Our Practice consulting hours are Monday to Friday: 8.30pm - 5.30pm, Saturdays are rostered – usually only till lunch time.
Dependent on the day of the week, we have one to four doctors on at any time. Appointments are generally 15 mins long and the day is broken down into a morning and an afternoon sessions.
TREATMENT ROOM
We have two fully equipped treatment rooms with modern electric beds. Most of the diagnostic equipment is available if required. Some specialised equipment includes electro and low lever laser therapy.
ADMIN SETUP
Westbury Doctors is fully accredited with AGPAL. We have two reception staff at all times and a practice manager is always available.
We use Medical Director and Pracsoft to manage our patients notes and billing. We are aiming to be paperless.
NURSING SERVICES
Our clinical support staff include 7 nurses who are made up of 3 RNs and 4 ENs. They are available during all consulting hours and can provide assistance with the following:
Wound care, Immunisations, Pathology collection, Point of care (including INR), Assistance with minor surgical procedures, Ear syringing, ECG, Women's health, Midwifery, Spirometry, Assistance with care plan preparation, Assistance with medical assessments
ALLIED HEALTH SERVICES
Westbury Doctors provides a number of inhouse Allied Health services including: Diabetes Education, Podiatry, Physiotherapy, Dietitian and Psychologist.
DIAGNOSTIC SERVICES
We provide onsite pathology collection. Imageing is referred to our local imaging services who are located 30 minutes from the surgery
OTHER CLINICAL SERVICES
In addition to our standard general practice services Westbury Doctors provide the following clinical services: Prolotherapy, Low Lever Laser herapy, electro therapy and mud therapy. We have a rehabilitation room with purpose built equipment.
PATIENT DEMOGRAPHICS
Westbury Doctors is located in a quaint little village en-route from the mainland ferry terminal to Launcestion. It is a tourist town with a small population of mostly retirees and local farmers. Our patient base includes a significant number of tourists who are visiting or just passing through.
BILLING ARRANGEMENTS
Mixed billing – private patients and bulk billing. Private billing for a standard 15 minutes consultation is charged at $77
PATIENT FLOWS
Our patients currently have to wait up to two weeks to get to see the doctor. There isn’t a shortage of patients. Two of our clinics are sole medical centres in those areas.
TOWN/SUBURB FACILITIES
Westbury is a town in the central North of Tasmania, Australia. It lies 30 km west of Launceston on the Bass Highway, and at the 2006 census had a population of 1,476. Westbury is on the main arterial road for visitors arriving on ferries from the mainland and as such attracts a significant number of tourists and passing trade.
TOURIST INFORMATION
Westbury is a classic Georgian village, surrounded by hedgerows and bursting with old English charm. Nestled under the Great Western Tiers, Westbury was a major stopping point between Hobart and the North West, however despite becoming the largest military community in Tasmania, the town failed to grow beyond a small population of convicts and free settlers.
Time may have stood still, but Westbury ticks on today as a classified historic town with plenty of attractions and charm. Its delightful streetscape includes stately inns, churches, homesteads, shops and public buildings restored to their former glory. Many now trade as antique shops and galleries showing the work of local artists and photographers.
Train lovers flock to the largest collection of antique steam engines in the world at Pearn's Steam Worldwhile the 170 year-old open garden and hedge maze at Westbury Maze and Tea Room will delight green thumbs, the young and the young at heart.
Other historic buildings house collections of vintage cars, toys and antiques. In fact Westbury could easily become known as the 'village of collectors'.
Westbury is a delightful base for exploring the many nearby attractions, from Launceston and the Tamar Valley to the gems of Tasmania's north-west.
SKILLS OR INTERESTS SOUGHT
Our ideal candidate is a VR GP who can assist with supervision. We will consider general registered Non VRs.
GPs that are interested in chronic or musculoskeletal conditions management will benefit from working in our practices the most, due to our doctors’ interest in this area of medicine. We are also heavily involved in using technology to treat conditions. It’s a good mixture between traditional and new medicine approach.

Some departing doctors, expanding business (opening new surgery), high patient numbers.
CONTRACT TERMS
We don’t promote our in home visits, however if one of our regular patients is unwell, we will visit them.
Some Saturday work may be required (rostered), and if a non restricted VR, the ability to supervise (our ideal candidate).
LOCUM TERMS
We welcome expressions of interest from any locum doctors who may be able to assist us until a permanent doctor comes on board.
Locums are usually offered $1,100 per day, plus a vehicle, plus accommodation and flights for the GP. Please contact us for available dates.

The GP who is looking to relocate here will benefit greatly from a large patient base, outstanding support from our clinical and admin staff and the owners.
